About the Artist
I'm an artist working from my Dayton, Ohio studio. I create landscapes that simplify the chaotic details of nature. I hope that each painted landscape helps viewers connect to nature.
I'm always learning and love to try new techniques. I like to change things up sometimes and paint different subjects so you'll also find still life paintings, figure studies, etc.
I use oil paints. Although brushes are occasionally used in the underpainting/sketch, they play a minor role in my painting process. I prefer laying down the paint with palette knives. Knives allow me to paint quickly and clean and they provide some added texture to each piece. I'm an indecisive person and knives force me to take action and make decisions as I paint!
I often paint in plein air (outdoors), but I also use reference photos to paint. Photography is a huge part of my creative process! I'm also a trained photographer and have spent years developing my own film and printing my photographs in the darkroom. B&W photography has taught me to see value (tones) in the landscapes that I paint. It also has a way of calming a scene and I use that in my painting process when I'm determining what to include and how to simplify a scene.
I received my BFA from Wright State University in 2019 and my MLS (Art History) degree from Fort Hays State University in 2024. I have exhibited since 2012.
